Dajue Temple or the Temple of Enlightenment, standing at the foot of Yangtai Hill in Beijing’s western suburbs, was first build in 1068 in ancient Liao Dynasty.
This peaceful temple is nationally well reputed, especially around Qingming Festival, flocks of tourist will rush this temple to enjoy the special magnolia blossoms, which can be said to be the symbol of Dajue Temple.
This magnolia tree is small, but its flowers are big and its white leaves are thick, pure and noble. Many
Poets in Chinese history have written poems to praise the tree.
According to a scholar studying Dajue Temple for many years, the magnolia tree in the temple is over 300 years old. It was moved from Mt. Lushan. So it’s a southern-born magnolia tree, not a northern one. It migrated at the temple during the reign of emperor Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty.
The ancient tree blossoms each year around Qingming Festival, also known as the Tomb Sweeping Festival.
Thus many tea houses are built around the ancient magnolia tree, Minghui Tea House is a famous one.
So during this time every year, the favorite thing for many tourists to the Dajue Temple is to enjoy the magnolia and taste tea in the Minghui Tea House.
What’s more, a series of cultural performances will be showed to the tourists.
What kind of that peaceful feeling is? Just go there and experience by yourself.
